What does BookOut do?

How do I use BookOut software?

BookOut is a web-based application. It is accessible from any type of machine or smart-phone.

Is BookOut Cloud based software?

BookOut can be either installed on your local machine, or hosted on any web-site which has database capabilities.

Do I have to install and host BookOut software?

No. If you want, we will host BookOut for you. All you, and your users need to do is to access the pages on the web. If you want the system on site, we will install it onto a machine and have the unit delivered to you. All you have to do, is give us an IP address, open the ports to the internet and email and access the pages!

What systems does BookOut run on?

BookOut has been designed to run on Linux with Fedora Core as the recommended platform. Many clients prefer Linux because of the low overheads and ease of backing up small database files.
A Windows version is currently being developed.

What are the requirements for the BookOut software?

BookOut is designed to run on almost any 64 bit machine.The memory needed depends on the number of users and the amount of data, but for a typical 40 user system with 40 items, 2Gb of RAM and 80Gb of hard disk space will suffice. At this size, the full backup of the application and the database normally will take up around 10Mb.

What about backup and recovery of BookOut?
For a 40 user system, the full database backup can be sent by email as the total database is usually only a few Mb in size. All the working files are static and can easily be restored by us (though it is good practice for users to keep a local, off-machine, copy if they are hosting the system).

Is there a limit to the number of users/items?

In principle, BookOut should work for any number of users or items, however, we only currently recommend use for up to 200 users and/or items.
